If you have been ill for more than 7 days, AND your illness started before 10 December 2021 you will need a doctor’s certificate. These certificates are called ‘Fitness to Work’ Certificates.

The doctor may call you or arrange for an appointment.

If you have already been seen by your Doctor about this illness your certificate will be sent to you within a week.

HOWEVER, from 10 December 2021, if you have a NEW illness that requires you to take Sick Leave from work you must now self-certify your absence (for up to 28 days).

Previously you were required to self-certify for 7 days and then request a note from your GP.

GP's will no longer be issuing sick notes for any absences of 28 days or less.
